Ready for their Next Challenge
The next hour was fantastic. Sue relaxed more and more as time went on. Mr Madison did most of the talking, and showed videos of them from their bunny days (which the audience found most amusing, especially Frank getting bitten on the ankle) to their final few fights against pretty dramatic opponents. And when he did interview them, he asked the same kind of questions he had asked every week, and to which they had stock answers. George even managed to be ‘pithy’.
“And we have one of the highest ranked healers of any independent team in the game!” Mr Madison said, and Sue felt herself blush. “She’s quiet, and she’s shy, but she’s the star of this team. With her buffs going in, her ability to sense the surrounding area, and her healing when things do go wrong… there are few things that this team can’t handle!”
“Which means that the Chargers are ready for their next challenge… taking on the armies of the dark! Starting Monday they are going to be acting as a small but powerful team of mercenaries that I am going to hire out to the armies of the light to take on select tasks. Important tasks. Scouting deep in to the territory of the dark to find and stop their evil plans!”
The audience cheered.
“And we would like you all to follow that journey. To that end, my staff will be handing out numbered tickets. These tickets may be bought or sold, we are mercenaries after all, but they are good for a free six day backstage pass to see all of the Charger’s videos. And I will be randomly selecting seven individuals to join them in an interview… one for each of the player’s interview, and three to join us in a round table. So, make sure you pick up your limited edition tickets. And now, so that we can all feel free to eat, I see Pastor Jones here. Pastor, would you mind praying for the food?”
He must have asked him before hand, because Pastor Jones didn’t even look surprised, but stood up and asked the Lord’s blessing on the food, and on the work of Mr Madison and the Chargers. And then the crowd broke up. With most of the boys going to get food, the rest of the boys and girls coming to congratulate their family and friend, and the adults breaking up into cliques.
“What are you doing here, anyway?” Susan asked Jullia, when she got done with her crowd of well wishers.
“Oh, Mr Madison hired us to help set up and all. And to keep it a surprise.”
“Well, I was surprised.”
